Make Sure Your SEO Does Not Contain These Errors

Search engine optimization is not overly difficult but you should still be careful to avoid some of the most common mistakes. After reading this you should be able to make your website more search engine friendly.

Make sure that your website title ( <title> ) has keywords that describe your website. Also, make sure that you have 5 words in there that tell what is actually on the webpage. If you do not put a title on your webpage then you might end up with something like ‘home’ for a title. That would do nothing to help your search engine rankings.

An example of a good title is ‘Natural medicine for adult adhd’. This shows exactly what your webpage is about then when somebody arrives there they will find exactly what they were looking for. Be sure not to stuff your title full of keywords as in this example: ‘Natural medicine, home remedies, natural tinctures, homeopathic medicine’. This will not help your rankings at all. It looks both like spam and not professional at all.

All of your images should have alternate text. This gives the search engine spiders extra food to nibble on. Here is a bad example of an image tag <img src=”pic.jpg” alt=”banner”>. Rather than having no keywords in your tag you should add some to both the image and alt tag as in this example: <img src=”adhd-medicine.jpg” alt=”natural adhd medicine”>

Do not use javascript to aggregate content from the web. The spiders will not recognize any keywords and it will greatly reduce the value of your content. If you plan to pull information from other websites you should use a server side language such as php to aggregate data. You should use javascript only when there are no other options available.

Header tags (h1, h2) are very important when optimizing a site for the search engines. The function of a header tag is to outline the important sections on a webpage. Make sure that your header tags contain keywords that describe what comes after them. There is one problem that you will find with header tags and that is the font size will be very large (h1) to very small (h6). This can be easily corrected using CSS to control the way it appears when it is published on the web.

Spelling and grammar will affect your SEO negatively, as well. Google is starting to side with librarians to help create their algorithms. Right now poor grammar will not hurt you that much but in the future you can count on it playing a larger role in SEO. One thing that will negatively impact your site is spelling. If you misspell natural as naturel you will likely not have as many people finding your website for a misspelled keyword.
