Online Marketing From an Affiliate Perspective

There are many ways to make money on the internet but today I am going to focus only on affiliate marketing. I have been a super affiliate for 7 years and love the benefits that this profession gives me. The reason I enjoy affiliate marketing the most is if I need a day off work I can take it because I am my own boss.
Affiliate marketing requires 4 parties to function. These are the affiliate, consumer, merchant and network. The affiliate uses all types of methods to find consumers and refer them to the merchant. A few examples of how an affiliate drives traffic are search engine optimization, e-mail marketing, publishing reviews and paid search engine marketing.
In order to attract affiliate marketer’s the merchant sets up an affiliate program and offers a cash bounty for each consumer that is sent to them. This is normally a percentage of the total sale. For example, Amazon.com offers 10% commission on any sales that are referred to them.
When the consumer arrives at the merchant a cookie tells the merchant which affiliate marketer sent them and credit is given in the form of a cash bounty. A cookie is a small piece of code that is stored on the consumers computer when they click a special link that was made by the affiliate marketer.
Most affiliate programs pay using a CPS (Cost Per Sale) compensation method. This is what I was talking about earlier where a certain percentage of a sale is given out as commission. CPC (Cost Per Click) makes up a majority of the remaining 20% of affiliate programs. This type of program gives you a small cash reward for every single consumer that you send to a merchant whether they make a purchase, or not.
A lot of merchants offer multiple tiered affiliate programs. If an existing affiliate refers somebody who signs on to be an affiliate they are placed underneath the referrer and becomes part of their tier. The referring affiliate will now make a commission on each sale that the new affiliate makes (perhaps 5% commission).
Sometimes merchants run tiers 4-5 deep with the % of commission going down for each tier. When the merchant runs a program that is multi-tiered it looks a lot like an MLM (multi-level marketing) scheme. The difference between multi-tiered affiliate programs and MLM schemes are that the former doesn not have nearly as many requirements in order to be paid commission.
One of the greatest parts of being an affiliate marketer is that you can figure out your own ways to bring in maximum commissions. It’s not the same as a boring day job where you go do everything to a ‘T’. If you find something that works really well then you can keep repeating it and build up loads of monthly commissions.

Great post…The 20th century brought more diversified and complex yet easy environment in corporate world thus allowing everyone to make money online. Transaction with out the physical presence is extremely increasing as the new world of technology comes in. Making money online is in some way form a business transaction by the use of internet as an intermediary.
