But today, we are going to focus on two of the most common approaches to using banners/graphics in your ads.

Making your OWN banners and ads

Give the site visitor something different than what they see time and time again. This approach takes into consideration, if a surfer doesn’t click on a banner the first time, or even the 10th time they see it, they won’t click on it ever. The approach is to rectify this by showing them something completely different than anything they’ve seen.

Get creative! Try different colors, sizes, and words for your banners/graphics.

Not ‘graphically enabled’? Try taking sections of one of your affiliate program’s pages and develop your own custom table ad or banner.

Use the SAME ads everyone else uses

Okay, so what angle does this approach come from? Why familiarity of course!

This approach is banking on the possibility that if the site visitor sees something over and over, eventually they might click just to see what it’s all about! Why do you think those two REALLY LARGE soft drink companies buy commercial time, and billboard space? It’s not because they think someone is going to see their product on television and say “Geez, I’ll be right back, going to get a ‘xyz soda”. It’s because the next time they ARE in the store, they are more apt to grab the ‘tried and true’ xyz soda that is oh, so familiar. ;o)

Test and see what works for your type of traffic!

Remember, that IS the key; figuring out the type of traffic you have, and modifying your marketing techniques to suit it!
